Pre-surgical rehabilitation, or “pre-hab”, is becoming a go-to for surgeons across the country. The thought is that patients who perform physical therapy to improve range of motion, strength, and overall function of a joint prior to surgery tend to have better outcomes following their surgical intervention. When the patient goes into a surgery with normal joint range of motion and maximal strength, they recover faster and have fewer complications with the surgery itself. If you are considering having a surgery done in the near future, ask your surgeon about getting a prescription for pre-hab. It will reduce your recovery time and help you get back to life sooner!
